Conditioned Stimulus

A stimulus, initially neutral, that evokes a particular response it did not initially evoke following repeated pairings with an unconditioned stimulus (American Psychological Association, 2018; Psychology, 2020). For example, when a bell sounds every time immediately before/after food is presented, the sound will eventually cause salivation, making it a conditioned stimulus.
