The branch of psychoanalysis developed by Heinz Kohut focuses on the importance of the development of a healthy sense of oneself. According to Heinz, the root of several psychological problems lies in the lack of proper response to a growing child’s emotional needs. This causes an individual to relocate their locus of approval to others surrounding them (Baker & Baker, 1987).
